Brendan Rodgers confirms Celtic will have to sign a new keeper after 'serious' Craig Gordon injury

The Hoops keeper collided heavily with Efe Ambrose during the 1-0 win over Hibs at Parkhead.

Brendan Rodgers admits he will have to sign a goalkeeper after Craig Gordon suffered a 'serious' knee injury against Hibs.

The Celtic keeper collided heavily with Efe Ambrose just before half-time as the Hoops edged out Neil Lennon's side 1-0 at Parkhead.

Gordon failed to re-emerge for the second half and was replaced by sub stopper Dorus de Vries, leaving the club with a race against time to sign a new man before the transfer window closes next week.

The 35-year-old joined Leigh Griffiths on the treatment table after he sustained a calf injury just minutes after hitting what proved to be the winner.

Asked about the duo's condition, Rodgers said: "Both struggling. Leigh it looks like his calf, he's had issues and problems with them.

"Craig's looks a bit more serious in terms of his knee so we'll need to have a look at that and have a scan. It looks like he could be out for a period of time.

"We'll need to look at the goalkeeper situation. We sent young Conor Hazard out on loan, funnily enough, to get experience.

"He could be a very good player in the future for us but he needs the experience, so that's certainly another area we'll have to look at for sure."

Both injuries create a headache for the Celtic boss as he's now forced to scramble to find a new keeper and, with Moussa Dembele 's future uncertain, could be left short of options up front.

Gordon looks set for a lengthy lay-off and Rodgers admitted Griffiths was likely to miss Tuesday's clash with Hearts.

Not a signing I was looking for.
Hope Craig gets better soon.
On the plus side Doris fair showed him how to pass the ball out.

Do yous think that we will be trying to bring a new number one OR a goalie to back up De Vries?

Bedding in a new number one would be good and preferable in my book. (6 month loan with option to buy would be optimal)

If a good enough keeper is available who would come, yes 100% Brendan wouldn't have tried to replace him already if he thought he was the answer. Maybe Doris will step up..

I see they are looking at Emiliano Martinez who is on Arsenals books, been on loan most of his playing career but he is young, could be good

Celtic have made a shock move for Dundee’s on-loan Hibs keeper Scott Bain in bid to solve their goalkeeping crisis
Hoops No1 Craig Gordon faces three months out after he was crocked in a collision with former team-mate Efe Ambrose

CELTIC have made a shock move for Scott Bain to solve their goalkeeping crisis.

SunSport can reveal they’ve approached Dundee with a view to paying a nominal fee for the 26-year-old who is currently on loan at Hibs until the end of the season.

Bain is currently on loan at Hibs until the end of the season

Bain’s out of contract in the summer and has yet to appear for Neil Lennon’s side.

It’s understood the Hibees would have to be prepared to end their agreement with the highly rated keeper to allow Celtic to attempt to reach a deal with the Dens Park outfit.

The Hoops desperately need to bring in cover following Craig Gordon’s knee ligament injury suffered in last weekend’s win over Hibs.

The veteran Scotland No1 is expected to be out for at least three months.

That leaves boss Brendan Rodgers – with just Dorus de Vries as a senior keeper option – needing experienced back-up for the rest of the domestic campaign plus next month’s Europa League last 32 tie against Zenit St Petersburg.
