Champions League Games Could Be Coming To Weekends

There's talk of monumental changes to the Champions League in the near future - with games potentially being played on the weekends instead of midweek.
Elliot Richardson, who is the Chairman of Dugout, tweeted to say that he has heard from "very good sources" that UCL games will indeed be moving in a bid to maximise the Asian and US audiences interested in the European football's premier club competition.

Of course, it would also majorly mess up the schedule in domestic leagues across Europe but it's said that domestic games would shift to mid-week to accommodate Champions League action.

We currently have the final on a weekend ay at the end of the Champions League campaign but having all the games played on Saturdays and Sunday just feels plain wrong and it feels like a wholly unnecessary change.

Since 2003/04 there have been eight groups of four teams in the Champions League - with the top two progressing to the round of 16 after six games. Matches have been played on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

However, as per Sport BILD, we could soon have four groups of eight teams as well as a drastic schedule change whereby we see the UCL played at the end of every week.
Going into this season, UEFA announced new kick-off times of 17:55 and 20:00 (GMT), 23-man squads instead of while they recently revealed that VAR and a fourth substitute will be used starting with this season's knockout changes.

But moving it to weekends, in a huge overhaul of the competition everyone loves, would inevitably be the most drastic change and we can't see it going down well.
If it's not broken, don't fix it.

Its defo pushed towards the elite teams. Would hate European games at the weekend. At night under the lights is better.

Its all about the money, what actual fans think doesn't matter one iota.

Celtic are being priced out of the market for top players and unfortunately falling down the European ranking with very little chance of stopping the slide.

Look at the game last night Man City team cost £530 million, no danger can we currently compete with that.

Football is fucked.

Only have to look at how even the biggest leagues are going. Spain is a coin toss between two teams, France has PSG miles ahead, Serie A is won by Juventus in August and the Bundesliga is handed out to Bayern around the same time. Have to say I agree with Ibrahim, people are going to get bored of watching foregone conclusions and I would also suggest they'll not be interested in a completely Europe focused game. Dress it up how you want but fans want to meet and beat clubs local to them, not ones hundreds of miles away, on a regular basis.
